Hubsan X4 H107L Review – Fast, Sleek, and Affordable

Hubsan X4 H107L Review

Are you in the market for a fast, agile, and easy-to-fly beginner quadcopter? If so, check out the Hubsan X4 H107L. The drone comes with different flight modes, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your experience level.

Although this RC drone is pretty small (without the battery it weighs less than 30 grams), it’s still very fast.

Whether you’re a veteran flyer with years of experience, or a beginner with none, we’re confident that you’ll love this beginner UAV.

Let’s not forget to mention it offers a remote range of about 30 meters. In this Hubsan X4 H107L review, we’ll show you everything there is to know about it.

Flight & Charging Time

Hubsan X4 H107L Review

One of the first questions you may have about this quadcopter is, “How long can it fly?” We think that you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the answer: about 9 minutes.

Considering that many similarly-priced drones have flight times of much less, it’s easy to see that you’re getting an amazing bargain right off the bat.

As with any RC drone, it’s possible to increase your flight time by flying more conservatively, by avoiding the wind, and by removing things like prop guards.

How about charging time? The X4’s battery will charge up to maximum capacity in about 40 minutes. That isn’t anything special, but it’s not terrible either. As I say in nearly all my reviews, buy extra batteries.

They aren’t that expensive, and will allow you to keep on flying after your battery dies (just replace and keep flying).

Unfortunately, the problem with most RC drones today, including the X4, is that they lack decent flying time. In the future, I’m confident that this will change, but for right now, that’s the way it is.

What Do You Get?

So, what do you get when you buy this RC drone? Here’s a breakdown of what comes in the box:

  • USB Charging Cable: One thing that I love about this quadcopter is that it’s possible to charge it straight from your laptop computer! As we mentioned earlier, the charging time for the X4 is approximately 40 minutes.
  • Spare Propellers: If you’re a beginner flyer, expect to crash…a lot. It’s simply part of the process of learning how to fly a drone. With that being said, it helps to have some spare propellers at hand. That way, if yours break, which will probably happen a lot in the beginning, you can quickly and easily replace them.
  • Transmitter: As with all RTF (ready-to-fly) RC drone models, the X4 comes with a transmitter that operates on a 2.4 GHz frequency and that comes with four channels. Why four channels? So that you can fly with friends without having to worry about interfering with each other’s connections!

No review on this drone would be complete without telling you that the drone’s propellers are color-coded.

This makes it less likely that you’ll place the wrong propeller on the wrong motor (believe me this is very easy to do if you’re a beginner). Now let’s move on to talk about my favorite thing about this drone: anti-flip mode.

What is “anti-flip mode”? In simplest terms, when you enter this mode (which can be done by pressing a button on the drone’s transmitter), the drone will no longer be able to perform single-button flips.

You might be asking, “Okay, but why is this beneficial?” The answer: when you’re flying in “Expert Mode”, the controls are going to be very sensitive.

As a result, you might not want to be doing flips as it could lead to a crash. If you want to see the X4 in action with anti-flip mode on, then check out the following video:

Weight & Design

As we mentioned earlier in this review, the X4 weighs less than 30 grams without the battery (about 28 grams to be exact). But despite being so small, it doesn’t lack power.

This drone can really get going when you’ve got the throttle all the way up. The only thing you’ll need to worry about is excess wind. Like all smaller quadcopters, the X4 doesn’t do a good job at fighting the wind.

All it takes is one strong gust to send your drone hurling towards the grass, or worse, the pavement. For this reason, I only recommend flying when the weather conditions are optimal.

Flight X4

From an aesthetic standpoint, the X4 looks pretty cool! It comes with a black/white body as well as color-coded propellers. It also comes with smaller rubber feet. These are designed to absorbed landings and protect the drone’s body.

Thanks to its lightweight design, the X4 can really be flown aggressively. But it’s a double-edged sword because that also makes it susceptible to getting caught in the wind.

Also, I wanted to mention that this beginner quadcopter can also be flown indoors. Granted, it’s not as small as the Cheerson CX-10, but it can still be flown indoors.

The Transmitter

Next in this Hubsan X4 H107L review, we’re going to talk about the drone’s transmitter. It’s pretty standard: it has two joysticks, flight mode buttons, trim buttons, and an LCD screen.

The LCD screen will show you important information regarding your flight, while the trim buttons will help you adjust and stabilize your drone in the air.

The flight mode buttons are designed to increase/decrease transmitter sensitivity while the two joysticks are for controlling the drone.

Where the transmitter is different is in regards to looks and feel. In short, it’s very ergonomic (it fits in your hands nicely) and it looks really cool (sort of like a PlayStation controller).

Although the official specs say that you can only fly the X4 up to 30 meters away, personal experience says otherwise: I’ve been able to fly mine up to 50 meters away, and sometimes more in open fields.

Hubsan X4 H107L Review – Bottom Line

Basically, this is a drone designed for someone who wants to fly aggressively without breaking the bank.

As you probably know, drone racing is becoming very popular. The only problem, though, is that racing drones are very expensive (think thousands).

The X4 offers racing-like aggression without the hefty price tag, and that’s the reason why you’re going to love it.
